Gravatar link icons

Not really sure why anyone would use this. But it proves it can be done, yes?

Why not: the md5 code isn’t the smallest of libraries to download just for pretty mail icons. You’re also going to be sending the full email address in the page content, to some, that would bother them. (anti-spam). And not to mention if you did this server side, you wouldn’t require client side code at all, and it’d save bandwidth for everybody. Oh well :)

Usefully borrowed the md5 code needed for gravatar from Paul Johnston’s page.

How to use it:

  1. Download script.js
  2. Include the file in the page(s), via a <script type="text/javascript" src="script.js"></script>, or copy&paste the code at the bottom of your global.js
  3. Edit the variables at the end of the file, to specify default image, size, and image rating.

Example

john drinkwater, the author of this pointless script.
Petter Juliussen, the only other BeOS I could think of with a gravatar (plus I read his blog)
